Post-Conviction Litigation

Besides appealing a criminal conviction, there is sometimes other relief available. A criminal conviction that was obtained in violation of the United States Constitution can be attacked a the trial court level. One example of this is when a defendant had ineffective legal representation that affected the outcome of his/her criminal case, resulting in a conviction. Such a conviction can often be attacked via a motion to vacate the conviction. In addition, even if a loved one is serving a sentence for a valid conviction, Judges often have the ability to reduce the sentence if petitioned properly. Post-conviction litigation is an important aspect of advocating for clients who have been convicted of crimes.
